About the Organization

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is the world's largest free trade area, comprising 55 African Union Member States and eight Regional Economic Communities (RECs). It was established to create a single continental market for goods and services, facilitating the free movement of people, goods, and investments across Africa.

With an estimated 1.3 billion people and a combined GDP of approximately US$3.4 trillion, the AfCFTA represents one of the African Union's flagship initiatives under Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want. The Secretariat coordinates the implementation of this ambitious continental integration agenda, driving sustainable economic growth and industrialisation across the continent.

About the Programme

The AfCFTA Human Resource Management Internship Programme has been established to provide talented African students with first-hand experience working within the AfCFTA Secretariat. The programme supports the Secretariat's strategic objectives and corporate functions while offering participants practical exposure to international public service.

Interns will contribute to ongoing projects, strengthening their analytical, technical, administrative, and professional skills in a multicultural environment. The programme specifically aims to expose young Africans to the work of the AfCFTA Secretariat at an early career stage, preparing them for future opportunities within regional and international institutions.

CareerFlora Expert Insight

The AfCFTA Human Resource Management Internship Programme represents a gateway to Africa's most significant economic integration initiative. With over 1.3 billion people and US$3.4 trillion in combined GDP, the AfCFTA is reshaping continental trade, and internships at its Secretariat offer unparalleled exposure to high-level policy implementation and international diplomacy.

Competition for this opportunity is expected to be high, given the prestige of the AfCFTA Secretariat and the limited number of positions available. Candidates who demonstrate strong multilingual capabilities, academic excellence, and a genuine commitment to Africa's development will have a competitive advantage. We recommend applying early and crafting a motivation letter that clearly articulates how this internship aligns with your career aspirations and how you can contribute to the Secretariat's objectives.
