About the German-Asian Programme

The German-Asian Programme was established in 1995 with support from the Federal Foreign Office during the Asia-Europe Summit in Bangkok.

The programme was created to strengthen journalism exchange and media cooperation between Germany and Asian countries.

For the 2026 cohort:

  • Up to 10 fellowships will be awarded
  • Up to 5 Japanese journalists will work in Germany
  • German fellows will travel to Japan for reporting and research
